Digital formatting is the process of creating an HTML code that enables your manuscript to be utilized by different e-readers. In simple terms, its turning the .doc file into an e-reader file. However, it’s not as simple as hitting Save As on your computer. Making an e-book is a labor intensive process, and devices and programs are making updates every year, which change the way we format books. It’s like relearning the wheel every couple of years or so. Every digital format includes:
- In-line table of contents
- Scene break formatting
- Consistency checks
- Main text formatting

- Device proof
- Chapter headings

Cost: $200 for one format, $75 per additional format
Example: one manuscript turned into an .epub and a .mobi file would cost $275

Remember: e-readers are loaded with ways for users to customize their experience. That means that the font you think is really cool, might not actually be used. For this reason, we don’t recommend custom fonts for digital formatting.
