The literal version of crossing your t’s and dotting your i’s.

Do you have a book which has already been copyedited?
Have you received an edit which you believe was rushed or inadequate?
Are you creating a second edition of a previously published book?
Then this final phase of copyediting is the right choice for you.

Proofreading is the final stage in the editing process, the last ounce of polish before the manuscript is fit to print. This stage includes:

  • Punctuation use
  • Typos
  • Spelling
  • Etymology
  • Consistency check with style sheet
  • Emdash versus endash versus hyphen
  • Text formatting for internal dialogue
  • Chapter headings
  • Word formatting

Cost: .009 cents per word.
Turnaround: one to two weeks depending on length of manuscript.

You do not have to provide your editor with a style sheet–at the Quick Fox, we make the style sheet for you in the process.

Please note: a proofread does not include digital formatting. This stage is text editing only. For assistance in digital and print formatting, please see our Formatting Service department.

Changes made in proofreading are largely track changes in Word, but can include the occasional comment in order to confirm if a word is dialect or a typo, or a note on word etymology if needed. At the end of the day, your book is your own, and you have the right to both approve or deny any changes we make.

As with all of our editing services, the Proofread includes follow-up via email or Google Hangouts for questions, comments, and any concerns. Whether you have a question about the publishing process or want to discuss rules of grammar and punctuation, we are here for you every step of the way.

All first time clients will receive a sample edit of the first five pages of their manuscript. This sample allows our clients to make sure the Quick Fox is the right fit for you.

The Quick Fox offers custom payment plans for every service we provide. You can break up the cost of your edit into smaller increments months ahead of time. We understand that publishing is a long term financial commitment, and are happy to work with you to make the cost of putting out your next book a little easier on your budget.
